Certification and RCAP Corner Minimize

OCN Certification:  Are you a candidate for OCN Certification? YNHH supports certification for RNs both financially and by providing review classes that are held regularly. If you have been an RN for at least a year and have 1,000 hours of adult oncology experience, you may qualify to take the exam. To get a feel for the types of questions on the exam, you can click here to see a breakdown of the topics covered on the exam and here to get to a link where you can take practice tests online. RCAP Advancement:  Are you a candidate for RCAP advancement or do you want to learn more about how to  move up the clinical ladder? Smilow SLEs hold frequent RCAP fairs where you can learn more about how to create your portfolio by seeing examples of Positive Impact statements. Speak to your SLE to learn more.

The Smilow Society is a newly created Journal Club for oncology nurses at Smilow Cancer Hospital. Information about meeting times and links to PDF's of the articles are posted on this site. All of the articles from prior months can be found in the Smilow Society folder in the Journal Article Bank under Resources. CNE credits are available to ONS members who participate in the club. If you are unable to attend a particular meeting, you can read a summary of the discussion on this website and can click this link to take an online post-test to obtain your CNE's.

Our Journal Article Bank has many recent articles grouped by topic from several journals, including the Clinical Journal of Oncology and the Oncology Nursing Forum. You can access the articles from any hospital computer by clicking on the links. Another great resource is the journal Seminars in Oncology Nursing. This journal has whole issues devoted to different aspects of a particular topic and is easy to search. There is a direct link to the online version of this resource both in the journal bank and in the links sections. Recent issues have covered topics including Prostate Cancer, GI malignancies, Head and Neck Cancer, Vascular Access, HSCT, Fertility and Sexuality.

Welcome to the Oncology and Research Cluster Website

This website is designed to be a source of news and information for oncology nurses at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The site will be regularly updated and new content added. 

One of the Cluster's ongoing goals is to facilitate communication among staff nurses from different units and sharing of best practices. In that spirit, each month we will celebrate one of the units represented by the Cluster. Click here to learn more about the Unit of the Month program. We are also interested in specific safety and quality initiatives that are working on your unit. If you have something we should spotlight, let us know.
